(Xinhua) — The security officer who was seriously injured on Monday morning in a stabbing attack outside the Brazilian embassy in the Tunisian capital of Tunis died in the hospital, reported the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).
“The assailant is a 53-year-old university professor,” TAP quoted Faker Bouzghaia, head of the Information and Communication Office at Tunisia’s Interior Ministry, as saying.
Bouzghaia said the suspect had no criminal record, adding that his family confirmed that he had suffered psychological disorders.
Earlier on Monday, a security officer was stabbed with a sharp object by a person after he questioned the assailant’s presence near the Brazilian embassy.
The assailant was shot in the leg and arrested. The embassy is located in a district housing many foreign missions. Following the incident, roads leading to the embassy have been cordoned off and security was reinforced.
